A big warm welcome to our new Year 7 group as they join us for their first week at Newall Green High School!
We had a great time getting to know the new students when they were still in Year 6 at primary school when they came to us for their transition day, this was also a great opportunity for the students to make friends for September.
On Thursday 4th July Y6 students arrived for their transition day at Newall Green High School ahead of their big move to secondary school in September as our new Year 7 cohort. The day started with breakfast and mingling in the Theatre where Year 6’s met pupils from other primaries.
The English team were delighted to have the opportunity to share our idea of a perfect book and what we enjoy reading. As part of the transition to Year 7, Year 6 have been given a copy of the fabulous novel “Cirque Du Freak” by Darren Shan to take home and read over their summer holidays. Cirque Du Freak is a book everyone is sure to love and we can guarantee that once you start reading it, you will not want to put it down! The story features an ordinary boy, a poisonous spider called Madam Octa, a vampire called Larten Crepsley and a trip to the famous Cirque Du Freak. We can’t wait to see Year 7 in September and hear all about their reviews. Happy Summer Reading everyone!
The Science team raised the temperatures with a workshop for Y6 students to make and light their own sparklers and watch some exciting demonstrations. The final Nation Trust workshop ignited students’ creative skills and they all made a dreamcatcher using natural resources and then decorated it with a message for their own High School aspirations. In the afternoon the students had an exciting trip to Sale Water Park for Team Building Activities. All students had a go at canoeing, kayaking, kata canoeing and stand up paddle boarding. Fortunately, the students could cool off in the summer sun with a dip in the lake!
Isabelle from The Willows Primary said “I have had such a fun day, I’ve made lots of new friends and I overcame my fears and really enjoyed the water activities”.
We loved welcoming Year 6 students for the transition day and it was lovely to see you all making new friends.
