Luke Bennett in Year 11 has secured an apprenticeship at the luxury Midland Hotel in Manchester after completing a NCFE Food and Cookery V Cert. The Level 2 qualification has supported Luke to gain skills and knowledge in food and cookery, providing learners with experience of using different cooking skills and methods to enable them to use these within further education, apprenticeships and a career in food. Luke was faced with fierce competition through rigorous rounds of the selection process but will be begin his Sous Chef training this Summer. Luke and NGHS staff made and donated cakes to a cake sale to help Luke raise the money to buy his first set of professional chef knives. A total of £187 was raised at the break time fundraising event. We are very proud of Luke and his achievements and look forward to seeing him reach his goals in the food industry.
Luke said, “I’ve really enjoyed the V cert course. I’ve been able to learn so many new skills and gained a thorough understanding of all the areas of cooking to take me to the next level. I can’t wait to start my apprenticeship at the Midland Hotel.”
